Case Report/Research Presentations

During the IAPD Regional meeting the organizers would like to create an opportunity for young scientists, postgraduate students and clinicians to share experiences on both clinical and scientific expertise. We would like to invite you to present an interesting case, research ideas/projects or specific expertise that can be shared among an audience of congenial colleagues and professionals.

Case report submissions are closed. Notifications regarding the scheduling of your presentation will be sent by the first week of November.  Kindly note that in order to present your case report during the meeting, a full meeting registration is required.

Session: Health economics in dental decision making

In this presentation, the relevance of economics and economic evaluation in health care, in general and in relation to dentistry will be highlighted. The goals and principles of performing health economic evaluations are addressed as well as applications and challenges in dentistry.

Session: Meeting your neighbours in health care systems, caries prevalence and preventive dentistry

In this joint-presentation, an overview of the differences and similarities of the Belgian, German and Dutch health care systems will be given, together with the present caries prevalence data of children, adolescents and young adults, as well as the currently applied preventive strategies in these three countries. Nation-wide strategies for the management of dental caries will be considered and future developments for a better oral health will be proposed.

Session: Caries Treatment from a Global Perspective

Discusses terminology and clinical recommendations for managing cavitated carious lesions based on the texture of demineralized dentine. Overall goals are to preserve hard tissues and retain teeth long-term. The priorities are a balance of: preserving healthy and remineralizable tissue; achieving a restorative seal; maintaining pulpal health; and maximizing restoration success.

Er is veel bekend hoe cariës ontstaat en hoe het is te voorkomen. Toch komt het nog steeds veel en vaak voor. In deze voordracht brengt Annemarie Schuller u op de hoogte van de laatste cariësprevalentiecijfers uit het TNO-onderzoek “Kies voor Tanden”. Cariës heeft een sterke sociaal economische gradiënt die bij alle leeftijdsgroepen gezien wordt. Dit probleem komt wereldwijd voor, ongeacht de grote diversiteit in  tandheelkundige zorgsystemen. In deze lezing stelt Annemarie ook de vraag in hoeverre een combinatie van een populatiegerichte strategie en een individuele aanpak zou kunnen bijdragen in het voorkomen van cariës en het verminderen van de sociaal economische mondgezondheidsverschillen.

Session Dutch Spoken: Wat doe je eraan? Cariëspreventieve strategieën en initiatieven voor de jeugd

Er zijn verschillende interventies voor de preventie van cariës bij kinderen. Deze lezing geeft een overzicht van de interventies in Nederland. In het bijzonder wordt de preventieve interventie “GigaGaaf!”voor kinderen van 0 tot 5 jaar toegelicht. Verder zal de lezing ook ingaan op barrières en uitdagingen bij implementatie.

Since two decades, the development and global use of tricalcium silicate based cements has increased substantially within dentistry. Correlation between microstructure, physical characteristics, biocompatibility and clinical efficacy of commercial tricalcium silicates will be discussed with specific emphasis on the scope and future of this class of materials.

Session: Autism spectrum disorder; who’s borders are challenged?

Clinicians involved in the dental care of autistic children, need to acknowledge, and work alongside, a number of borders in order to deliver care of the highest calibre. Crossing these borders requires working closely not only with multidisciplinary and intradisciplinary teams but also with the child’s family.

Industry Partner Forum: SDI-Germany – Hands on training: silver diamine fluoride and use of the Hall technique

With continuing global adoption of the Hall technique to manage carious lesions in primary molars, this hands-on workshop will allow delegates with limited, or no, experience of its use the opportunity to familiarize themselves with why, when and how to use it for maximum success. Additionally, use of silver diamine fluoride to manage carious lesions in the primary dentition will be discussed, and there will be opportunity for hands-on training.

Session: 3D imaging in dentistry

Three dimensional imaging should add critical information which is unavailable from two dimensional images (justification principle). This lecture will focus on the use of CBCT and other 3 dimensional imaging techniques which can be beneficial in paediatric dentistry. Advantages, disadvantages, limitations and indications will be illustrated with radiographs.

Session: Intra-osseous anesthesia

Failure of local anaesthesia is a serious complication in clinical dentistry and especially in paediatric dentistry. Often both dentist and patient become irritated and upset. This lecture will explain why failures can happen and why intraosseous anaesthesia can solve the problem. Painless dentistry should be available for everyone

Session: Grenzen in beeld: Röntgendiagnostiek bij kinderen

Radiodiagnostics in children is not only about ‘finding something’, it is also about understanding the ground principles of radiation, including the importance of radioprotection, the use of different devices and techniques, and the ability to be able to decide which radiologic image to take.

Session: Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation: diagnosis and treatment
Date: Saturday 24 November

The different demarcated opacities that characterize MIH and their clinical behaviour are discussed. Together with how to perform an early diagnosis, risk factors are indicated. Hereby the short and the long term (treatment) goal for patient and affected molars should be taken into account.

Het Nederlandse opvoedingsideaal is in de loop der tijd verschoven van deugdzaamheid naar welbevinden. We streven er naar om een gelukkig kind groot te brengen en dit heeft ingrijpende consequenties voor onze opvoedingsstijl. Grenzen opzoeken en verleggen is gezond voor de ontwikkeling van kinderen, maar te weinig begrenzing kan leiden tot emotionele en gedragsproblemen. Deze lezing maakt het belang van grenzen inzichtelijk en geeft suggesties voor de praktijk van alledag.
